Best Advice
on Career Management
Build relationships
inside and outside your organization. That's the best thing you can do
for your career. Why? You learn about business opportunities, valuable
contacts, information that will help you to make good decisions. WNY and
the Southern Tier are easy places for networking. People are friendly and
accessible, and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and
make a difference through professional organizations, volunteering,
alumni groups, etc. Food for thought: every successful business
person says they have a mentor. Do you have one? Decide today to identify
and build a relationship with a mentor.

OI Partners - E.K. Ward and Associates
May 2004 Newsletter
Welcome
to our second edition of the OI Partners e-newsletter! The topic this month is
"Networking." Everyone
needs a network whether you are seeking a new job, looking for a
promotion, making a sale or just expanding the quality of your
life. It is a continuum
throughout your life, not just when you are looking for a job. I must receive 5-6 telephone calls a
day from someone, who is "networking." Usually, the last time that I heard
from them is when they were looking for their last job. It is not a "What can you do for
me?" attitude, but a "How can we partner and help each
other?" attitude that is important to keep in mind. The individual who says, "What
can I do for you?" is the person I want to help and continue a
relationship. A true and
efficient networker keeps in contact
throughout their career. That
person keeps his or her network informed of the status of their job
search and when they have landed a new job and most of all, provides
referrals and contacts for others.
We hope this
newsletter will provide effective tips and insights to the world of
networking. If you think that
this information can help someone else you know, please share it with
them. This is one of the best
gestures that you have to expand your own network!

Creation of
308,000 New Jobs Gives Boost to Economic Recovery
Apr. 3--The job market roared to life in March and created 308,000
